THE CLUB The Cascade Brigade Juggling Club meets every Thursday starting in September from 2:15 to 4:00. They practice with a large variety of juggling equipment including but not limited to balls, bounce balls, rings, clubs, cigar boxes, poi, devil stix, and diablos. At the practices, they also work together on different forms of passing and stealing with many objects. |
THE SHOW The Cascade Brigade Jugglers were formed in 1997. They started as a small group of students and faculty members who were interested in the art of juggling. They became an official affiliate of the International Jugglers Association, one of only a few high school clubs in the country with that designation. In 1999 they presented the first of their "Vaudeville" shows. The show was designed to showcase the talent of the jugglers and the talent of other members of the student body and faculty from Brandywine Heights. The show usually features 12 to 16 acts of talent plus four segments featuring the sponsors (the Cascade Brigade Jugglers). The juggling "scenes" that are produced by the club have become more technical and elaborate as the show has developed over the years. The jugglers usually perform a scene under black-light with fluorescent equipment choreographed to music. Other scenes have derived based on various themes. Some of these past themes have been "Jugglers of the Caribbean", "Grease", "Welcome to the Jungle", "Yard Sale", "The Mario Brothers", "Winter Holiday", "The Beach", "Camp Jugglestuff" and "Wild World of Sports". During these scenes, various objects not meant to be juggled are manipulated related to the theme. The audience has found these scenes to be quite entertaining in the past. Most of the club members perform in this event, and the past two years a sold-out crowd of over 700 people enjoyed the talent of this group. |
